About Me

My photo
The aim for this project is for my group and I to create a music video that follows the codes and conventions of others with a similar target audience in the current market and use techniques to make the audience relate to it. We hope if the target audience were to see our video, a sense of verisimilitude would be created as our video would use similar features and conventions to others in the market.

Development: Ancillary Task #2 - Perfume Advert

This is the perfume advert I followed closely when creating my own as there were many aspects of this particular perfume advert that I thought were effective. I liked that the main image was simple, just showing who the artist is without anything else. I like the banner at the bottom of the page as it makes the text stand out to the audience as the colours are contrasting. Not too much is written, so the audience don't get confussed or put off by the amount of text.

I like the way the the artist's dress colour here matches the colour of the perfume, the house style colour is very clear and for me the 'girly' message is out across staright away without even having to read the text.

Here are some examples of clebrity perfume adverts. When creating my own persume advert, I will be sure to follow the codes and conventions of purfume adverts that these all feature.

Development: Christmas Photography

I chose to use this image as the front cover of my Digipak as I think it looks profesional and is similar to many images that current artist's use with the same target audience as our own. The image on the right is of Pixie Lott, the artist we are focusing on. I think the image stands out contrasting to the blank background.

This is one of my favourite photographs from the session. I think it is effective and delicate, and looks profesional.

Photography taken on a blank wall is always useful as the it gives us the chance to put effects on or add other features to the image. It also allows me to change the lightening of the artist without making a big difference to the background.

The gaze theory is ued here as the artist positing is sexy, making the male gender attracted to the products, giving the products a wider audience. The female gender will also be attracted as they would think if they were to buy this product then they too could be attractive like the artist.

The 'soft' feel we are using throughout all of the products is shown here as shown by the artist's scarf (white is white- suggesting innocene and delicacy, something our target audience wanted) and the fact that her eyes are closed. Also, the ring that the artist is wearing also creates a girly feel, attracting the target audience.

I used the mic in these photographs as they are iconic of music and give this message to the audience straight away. I noticed this was a reocuring convention when researching into the products of other artists.

This is the photography I took over Christmas for the DigiPack and perfume advert I will create.

Research and Development: Iconography of music videos

In this filming session I think I clearly presented iconography of our chose genre of music.

The piano used here shows the iconography of music are more specifically of iconography of slow songs, using an electric guitar in this shot would not work out for example as it is iconography of rock. The tripod was used to make sure the shot was steady, matching the smoothness of the artist's voice and the piano intro in the audio.

Unfortunately, many of these shots we were unable to use because of the background which shows christmas decorations. This would not fit in with the rest of our music video and would not have the consistency that we must need to follow the conventions of a music video.

We also used an acoustic to show iconography of our genre. Many similar artists to ours used this in there videos, such as Taylor Swift. This will create verisimilitude for the audience and they will be able to narrow down what the genre of music it is, either country or pop.

Here is 'Fifteen' by Taylor Swift, which also shows iconography of music in her video. This video also helped me as it showed me how to present the iconography and the types of shots I could use. For example, in this video the artist is playing the guitar sitting down and the whole of the guitar is in the shot, this is something I took into consideration while filming.

I made this shot handheld to make the artist seem more 'real' to the audience, as if they were watching the artist singing this song in person.

These are images from a filming session on the 20th December. Unfortunatley, the other members of my group were unable to attend this session due to bad weather conditions. From this day of filming I captured some shots that I was pleased with and now find myself more confortable directing scences and using the equiptment.
