About Me

My photo
The aim for this project is for my group and I to create a music video that follows the codes and conventions of others with a similar target audience in the current market and use techniques to make the audience relate to it. We hope if the target audience were to see our video, a sense of verisimilitude would be created as our video would use similar features and conventions to others in the market.

Research: Combination of main and ancillary tasks from CURRENT ARTISTS

During the research stage of our production process, I spent of time reaching music videos currently in the market. Also, after we'd researched a music video, we'd look at other products from the same artist and see how they related. It is a common convention for all of the products to have the same house style and typography, it lets the audience relate products together straight away. For example, if the audience were to own an album and then want to buy the calender for the same artist, the would be able to recognise it in a shop by it's style. For bigger artists who have multiple albums, each album has its own style and has its own merchandise that reflects this style. Each album usually follows by a tour, meaning that the merchandise sold at this tour will relate to not only the album but also the music videos for songs on that album.
 Example- Taylor Swift
Taylor swift has more than one album but the audience can clearly see by the house style used that the merchandise shown bellow relates to her newest album 'Speak Now'. On all the mechanise that is shown here, the same purple shade is used as well as Taylor's iconic typography. Because of these features, the audience are able to relate the products to each other immediately.

Although this product doesn't have the name of the artist on it, the audience still recognise it straight away by the colour, typography and album name which matches other products of this artist.

Here is Taylor Swift's music video for 'Fearless'. Throughout the video is a motif of Taylor and her fans making a heart with their hands. This motif is used throughout other of Taylor's products such as her album and merchandise. If the audience were to watch the video, they would then automatically know that that song is on Taylor album showing the heart as the motif is used throughout both products. If the audience were to buy the album and then turn on MTV and see someones hands making a heart shape they will straight away know that this is Taylor Swifts music video.

Print Screens of motif:

Ont the CD for Taylor Swift's album 'Fearless' the same motif is used. It is a code and convention for music artist's to relate their ancillary tasks and music videos. It is also a convention to relate all of the ancillary products together by a house style or a consistent motif. I have used this convention throughout my products, creating a sense of verisimilitude for the audience.

This is another example to how the motif is used even of very minor merchandise. If the audience after watching the music video were to see only the side of the keyring with the heart on it, they would know straight away which artist this merchandise belonged to. If they were to see the side with the artist's name on, they would recognise the distinctive typography straight away as Taylor Swift uses this font on all of her products.

Bellow a synergetic style has been used. Taylor swift is on the front of Cosmo Girl and using the motif which runs through her products. If the audience who enjoyed the album were to see this, they would buy the magazine thinking that they will enjoy this magazine as the same motif is used. If another person were to read this magazine and enjoy what they read, they would then perhaps buy the album or watch the music video for the same reason. The connotation of this is that both the magazine company and the artist make money and gain a wider audience from each others products.

Here is Taylor Swift's newest music video 'Back to December'. This song is not the first on the album or the album name meaning that there is less merchandise relating to it. However, the music video has a clear relation with the CD single case.

Here is a print screen from the music video (above) and the single CD (bellow). The artist's look is very similar is both, her hair is straight and she has a full fringe. The same house style is used in both as the music video has light colours such as cream, white and yellow which reflects in the CD single case. The white of the bed in the video reflects the white text used and an overall soft and pastel style is used throughout, creating consistency throughout both products.
