About Me

The aim for this project is for my group and I to create a music video that follows the codes and conventions of others with a similar target audience in the current market and use techniques to make the audience relate to it. We hope if the target audience were to see our video, a sense of verisimilitude would be created as our video would use similar features and conventions to others in the market.

Development: Editing

Over the past week, we have busy editing to make sure our final product looks as good as it can be. Adding video effects and transitions has made a big effect to they way our video looks, making it look more conventional and professional. This media technology was new to use and therefore it took a lot of playing around before we were able to understand it!

These effects include fades, as shown above, which have make a huge difference. Because the settings of our backgrounds are different from shot to shot, the cuts are very sharp and did not seem to 'flow' earlier on in the week. However, by adding a fade effect to some of the shots with contrasting backgrounds made this change and softened the sharpness of the video. The dip to black affect has also make a big difference to our video, letting the audience see the different 'chapters' of the story line coming through.

A problem we encountered was again the fact that the storyline was still too complicated for a three minute video and our teachers gave us advice to ways in which we could change this. To solve this problem our teachers suggested we make the new boyfriend more negative that we had originally, e.g.. putting in a shot of him standing drinking, watching her rushing around with the cooking. To make sure the audience could tell him apart from the old boyfriend we also made the shots of her and her old boyfriend happier and more fast paced, letting the audience tell the different. To make this clearer still, we put a black and white effect on all of the shots of the old boyfriend, creating a sense of time for the audience, letting them know that this event was in the past contrasting to the coloured shots of the present. This feature I believe has really helped to structure our video and make it a lot clear for the audience to understand and follow. A sense of verisimilitude will be created for the audience as this is a convention used in previous music video's from current artists.

To make sure we kept consistency through both our music video and ancillary tasks we made sure the artist was sometimes wearing the same clothing in both the footage and photography and kept her make up and clothing the same throughout. There is also a soft and elegant feel running through all of the products. From audience feedback, it is clear that this is the style that attracts our target audience the most. We stuck to this because audience feedback is the most important thing we need into making our music video and we have learnt alot from knowing what the audience is interested in and attracted too.
