About Me

The aim for this project is for my group and I to create a music video that follows the codes and conventions of others with a similar target audience in the current market and use techniques to make the audience relate to it. We hope if the target audience were to see our video, a sense of verisimilitude would be created as our video would use similar features and conventions to others in the market.

Evaluation: Types of shots and how they tell the story/how they are effective

The first and last shot are the two most important shots in the entire music video. The first shot will make an impression on the audience and if this shot is not effective, it will not grip them and make them intrigued to watch the rest. We used a tracking shot as our first shot of our artist walking, to let the audience know that they are coming on a journey with the artist.
The final shot is just as important and if this shot if effective, the audience will be wondering what will happen next. We used a long shot as our final shot making it clear to the audience that she is walking into her new life without her old boyfriend. However, the final shot leaves what happens next in the love story open, letting the audience decide for themselves.

The black and white shots are a feature used throughout the video, giving the audience a sense of time. The black and white shots show the artist and her old boyfriend and this effect allows the audience to know the difference between her old boyfriend and new. This effect also shows that these are flashbacks contrasting to the coloured shots of the presents. I think this effect gives the narrative structure and if we did not use this effect it would cause confusion for the audience. While doing our research we found that this effect our audience would like and after recent audience feedback it is clear that we make the right decision as feedback from our target audience was positive and enthusiastic. Using the software 'Adobe Premiere Pro' was a new experience to our group. However, we have now got used to this new technology and are enjoying using it.

There are multiple shot used of the artist not singing. This allows the audience to see the emotion on the artists face that match the lyrics. It also gives the audience a change and a break- allowing them to think about what is happening in the video. The song is slow and sad and the shots of the artist not singing lets the emotions the artist is feeling come through to the audience.

There are shots of walking throughout the video, carrying on from the opening shot of walking to reinforce the idea of the 'journey' the artist and audience are experiencing.

Many of our shots match the lyrics of our the song, E.g. 'waiting by my window' show a shot of the artist looking out of the window, thinking. This shows the audience that the artist is reminiscing and thinking about this point in life. This is a common convention used in the pop music genre giving a sense of verisimilitude for the audience.

  1. Good blogging Sian, however please check spelling and grammar carefully. I know that you understand the correct media terminology but when your blogs include such frequent spelling errors it has an impact on the overall quality of communication. Please make corrections necessary. Overall the last few entries demonstrate an excellent understanding of issues around representation and conventions.
